The Voices of the Middle Branch interview series aims to celebrate the communities around the Middle Branch through visual storytelling.

We spoke with Diana Geis, a member of the Barre Circle community. Diana shares with us her heartfelt reflections on the beauty and significance of the Middle Branch waterfront and experiences that shape her connection to this vibrant area.

"For the past five years, I've had the privilege of calling the Barre Circle area my home, and in my twelve years in Baltimore, the memories I cherish most are those spent biking with my neighbors along the waterfront trails.

When I think of the waterfront or any park, I'm transported to moments of tranquility and joy. Whether walking with my grandchildren or simply breathing in the fresh air, I'm reminded of the simple pleasures that nature offers us. The breeze and the serenity of the surroundings remind me of the importance of being present in the moment. My daughter has ventured out on the boats, while I've explored the trails for walking and biking. These amenities not only provide avenues for recreation but also serve as gateways to deeper connections with nature and with one another.

Amidst the beauty, safety remains a concern. As I navigate our streets and parks, I'm aware of the need for increased vigilance. It's a reality that weighs heavy on my heart. But I believe that by fostering a stronger sense of community and encouraging more people to enjoy our outdoor spaces, we can create a safer environment for all."

In the story of Diana Geis and her connection to the Middle Branch, we find the importance of preserving our natural spaces, fostering community bonds, and nurturing the next generation to be stewards of the environment. As we continue to reimagine the Middle Branch, we hope Diana's vision will help guide us towards a brighter, more vibrant future for Baltimore City's cherished waterfront.
