SBGP & Elected Leaders Make Major Announcement On Regional Resiliency Initiative

The South Baltimore Gateway Partnership and Elected leaders recently announced the awarding of a major federal grant in the amount of $47.7 Million and the kickoff of The Middle Branch Resiliency Initiative.

Stage 1 of The Middle Branch Resiliency Initiative (MBRI) is a significant first step in addressing the environmental injustice South Baltimore neighborhoods have experienced for generations. The MBRI is a comprehensive implementation strategy for mitigating flood risks to public utilities, hospitals, transportation infrastructure, and communities surrounding the Middle Branch of the Patapsco River in Baltimore, Maryland.

Stage 1 of the initiative will benefit nearly 410,000 people which represents 21% of the total population in Baltimore City, Baltimore County and Anne Arundel County combined. Those who will benefit from the initiative include nearby residents, customers of BGE Spring Gardens, patients at MedStar Harbor Hospital, and employees who work at both sites.

The Middle Branch Resiliency Initiative was conceived of and will be implemented by the South Baltimore Gateway Partnership and is made possible by support from Baltimore City, Baltimore County, the State of Maryland, and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
